Besides the obvious of the Holy Spirit moving on people and making sure God's Word (not my ideas) is central, what techniques are you using that seems to be effective at keeping peoples attention and helping them remember what you say?   The best explanation on preaching and teaching the Word is summed up like eating a meal, for the most part we can't always remember everything we ate all the time but we know if we don't eat we will die.  In reality we all know that people don't hear everything we say and many cannot always remember what they were taught after a few days.

I find to look at preaching in this context leaves less of the "postpartum" delivery blues.  It is not always an incredible, amazing experience for everyone, it is helping them grow a little each day.

I was brought up on the 3 point sermon and taught it as the primary way to preach.  But I find that people are responding better to other formats, or even making sure to use a variety of formats.  Since I was Biblical Languages major I do use standard practice of exegesis in the preparation of understanding the text, but I just found that I can't present it that way all the time.

One of the ways that I have found is been really effective is tag-team preaching.  Where another pastor takes one of the ideas or when I have someone come up and share personal experience.  One of the benefits to this is that you give others the opportunity to grow in learning and experience while keeping the vision of where your teaching plan is going.

What other formats of presentation are you finding effective?
